What Kind of Education should an Entrepreneur Have
To be an entrepreneur means that you want to start your own business, or that you want the flexibility of working from home. To be a success, an entrepreneur needs an education in the following aspects of business:
*Planning/entrance/exit/growth strategies
*Sales/marketing
*Marketing Research
*Business analysis and delegation skills
*Financial savvy
These are just basic qualities an entrepreneur needs; there are very few degree programs in entrepreneurship. However, a budding entrepreneur will want to begin with basic aptitude tests, just like any other student. If you already have an idea for a product or service, start out by doing some marketing research.
Or, if you just want to work for yourself and adopt an existing business model, you need to learn how to identify opportunities and form a clear set of expectations. Real world experience is also useful; if you volunteer, run a household, or work with a child's sports team or church group, you already have some entrepreneurial skills. Take a look at your current job and see which skills translate easily to entrepreneurship. Character traits like perseverance, vision, and self control will all help you on the road to success.
The education needed to be an entrepreneur is largely informal. Most people exhibit some entrepreneurial traits. You will need to begin your education with an understanding of what skills you already have and you will need to learn how to apply them to your new venture. Perhaps the best way to learn how to be an entrepreneur is to develop a relationship with one. If you can't find one to work with you one-on-one, you should consider taking college courses. The important thing is to begin your education and stick with it; if you can't commit, then maybe entrepreneurship isn't the career choice for you.
